We are approaching the end of the first quarter of 2007 and are looking forward to another new year! We will be issuing a quarterly newsletter to keep everyone informed on what's happening at Rudy International.
Some points of interest that occurred during the past year of 2006 will be covered in this newsletter along with any newsworthy events that have occurred in the first quarter of 2007.
Rudy was the recipient of the 2006 Businessmen of the Year Award by the National Republican Congressional Committee Business Advisory Council for the State of Nevada. Several other recipients were named from various states throughout the United States as reported in the Wall Street Journal.
Rudy was invited to be the Grand Marshall for the City of Sparks, Nevada's 20th annual Hometowne Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 2, 2006. In addition to being the 20th Anniversary the city of Sparks honored one of their sister cities in Longford, Ireland. Based on the Rudy's connection with the University of Notre Dame the city of Sparks felt it was fitting to invite him to serve as the Grand Marshall. The event was very successful and drew approximately 15,000 attendees from all over the region.
Rudy was invited to be the keynote speaker at the Billy Nungesser Fund Raiser for Children of Katrina event held in New Orleans in September, 2006. The event was held at the Pointe Celeste Therapeutic Riding Center and was very successful. The Pointe Celeste Therapeutic Riding Center provides services to the students free of charge. The promoters of the event purchased Rudy memorabilia as give aways to the kids who attended the event. The New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper interviewed Rudy and wrote an article about the entire event.
Rudy was an invited VIP guest at the Andre Agassi Mother's Day Weekend Event May 12-14, 2006 where Mr. Tony Bennett was honored for his 80th Birthday celebration. Some of the event's sponsors included The Stirling Club, The Las Vegas Hilton Tennis Resort, Northwestern Mutual, Duetche Bank, Inside Tennis Magazine, etc. Event creators Jeff Taylor and Jason Spacek donated all proceeds from the ticket sales and live auction to VegasTennis.com's Marty Hennessy Jr. Tennis Foundation (a nonprofit 501 - c(3) organization) which established the Mike Agassi "NO QUIT" tournament and scholarship to help kids in need and inspire junior tennis in Nevada.
Rudy also spoke to the children who attend Agassi Center for Education for their summer enrichment program which runs the first days of August…These are children who are living at Child Haven who have been removed from their home due to abuse and/or neglect.
City of Joliet-Champions on the Street event honored the entire Ruettiger family. Joliet, Illinois is Rudy's hometown and the event was held at the Rialto Square Theater and many members of the family were present. The event showcased bicycle safety, kid's activities, YMCA, bowling, batting cages and coaches talked about various techniques.
Rudy made the pages of Sports Illustrated Notre Dame Tribute Issue this past fall September 2006.
The speakers Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that Rudy Ruettiger has been inducted as one of its first inductees. Visit their website at www.speakershalloffame.com for additional information.

RECIPE CORNER - Italian Chicken Soup (Rudy's favorite soup). INGREDIENTS: 4 quarts of water, one 16oz can of crushed tomatoes, chicken thighs, ditalini pasta noodles (can substitute orzo noodles or small shells) salt, flaked or ground oregano, flaked basil, garlic powder, grated parmesan cheese ---- Fill one large pot with water, crushed tomatoes and 6 to 8 chicken thighs and bring to a boil, add salt to taste, sprinkle remaining spice ingredients into the soup mixture (top of soup mixture will be covered with spices). Stir and reduce heat to simmer soup for approximately 2 hours. When soup is done remove chicken thighs and let them cool so bones and skin can be removed. In a separate pot boil water to cook pasta noodles (approx 1 lb). Cut up the chicken thigh meat in small bite size pieces and place back into the soup mixture along with the cooked pasta (depending how thick you like the soup you may not want to add all the cooked noodles into the soup)…..when soup is cooled you can skim any excess fat off the top of the soup…….soup is ready to serve. You can sprinkle parmesan cheese in each individual when serving if extra cheese is desired).
