As a special dedication to my mother, Elizabeth Ruettiger, I would like to honor her by sharing her words of wisdom to mothers around the world. A Mother is a teacher, nurse and one who has to set the example in her spiritual life for her children. A Mother is one who gives them all the love she has. Being a full time Mother is one of the highest salaried jobs, since the payment is “pure love”. A Mother is like a bank where the children deposit all their hurts and worries. Be there for them. A Mother has to teach her children that they are a family and everyone helps to make it work. They have rules and curfews, and chores that they have to do. They have to learn to share and be there for each other. I am a Mother of fourteen. They have brought a lot of joy into my life. Each one is a very special person to me. Each one is different. God has blessed me with my family. After dinner we would say the Rosary together. Mother Mary was a guiding light for all of us. She had both joy and sorrow. Being a Mother is something God made very special. As a Mother, the greatest prayer is for our children to stay close to God and family. If they stray for a while, a Mother keeps praying until they join the fold again. A Mother has to try to bring out the best in each child. Tell them how much you love them. Gently, patiently, work on them to bring out the best in them. Tell them how much God loves them. Know when to let go. The saying is “Untie the apron strings”. My one son, in his letter to us on our 50th Wedding Anniversary wrote, “You never preached our faith; you lived it for us.” The Greatest Gift you can give your children is to love your husband. Thank
